Tomato sauce for a Pasta or as they call it Sugo in Italian is a very famous and most commonly used sauce for Pasta. Here is a recipe with a little twist and my kids love it. You can use any Pasta or Spagetti, I mostly use the Farfalle or Fusilli.

Simple Veggie Sandwich

Who doesn't love a simple Sandwich! My girls are huge Sandwich fans and I am very happy for that because there are so many things different things you can put and make an interesting and healthy Sandwich, just get creative. I like to make mostly warm Sandwiches, sometimes with store bought bread and sometimes with my home made Focaccia.

Jaipur: The Pink City of India

Ajmeri Gate

Jaipur: The Pink City of India. The city of Jaipur was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh Ji II in the year 1727, who then used to rule Amber. The city is named after him. The city was planned for better facilities and for the growing population of Jaipur. He planned the City with great love and passion according to the Vastu Shastra with the help of the Architect, Vidhyadhar.  The City of Jaipur is the first planned City of India. The Streets of Jaipur are very wide (111 ft.) It is laid in a rectangle shape of nine blocks and it was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales in 1853 and since then its called as the Pink City.

There is a lot to see in Jaipur. The best way to travel in Jaipur is either hire a taxi through your hotel, or the most easiest and cheapest way is to hire a Richshaw or an Auto (Tuk Tuk)

Tips for Tourists

When you are travelling as a tourist then I know the kind of pressure you have to take things home for the friends and family. Here are some tips which might help you with your gift shopping.

1. One can never go wrong with Swiss Chocolate and here in the town where I live we have a chocolate factory outlet from Halba Chocolates. This is the photo from the entrance of the outlet, it looks exaclty like this, a Swiss Chalet, inviting you in and since I live 2 minutes walk from here, we have no choice but to indulge ourselves, so woth it, even a simple chocolate bar of 80 Rappen tastes heavenly!

Peanut Chutney

This Peanut Chutney is really yummy and its super simple to make. You can use it in so many ways. I serve it with Upma, as a spread for Falafel or in a Pita Bread sandwich and I also serve it as a Vegetable dip. It has a good protein and hence great for the children too.

Moong Daal

Moong Daal is one of the most commonly cooked Daals in the Indian homes. Here you will be able to see a little story of the good old green Moong and as they say, a picture says it better than a thousand words, so here you go:

Whole Moong
Moong daal with husk on
Yellow Moong daal

So you see first we have the Moong in the first picture. Moong can be soaked overnight and cooked as a whole bean and also as Sprouts

In the middle picture we see the broken Moong but with the green husk on, and the third one is Dholi Moong Daal which is without the Husk and hence yellow in colour. The yellow Moong daal is the most poupular one in the north of India.

So with one type of bean we can get four different kinds of Daals/lentils and even more because all of these can be made in flours too.

Restaurants

Tapri
Prithviraj Road
Opposite Central Park
Jaipur

Tapri: what can I say, its like a breath of fresh air. When N took me there for the first time, I started freaking out because its the first cool, neat place which serves the best kind of home made Chai and that too in so many varities and in those typical little Dhaba stlye glasses! There food is just awesome, from Samosas to Vatata Vedas, Aloo ka parantha, Golgappa and even Maggi! Boy! they serve it so well in these little wooden aged looking square trays which are lined with printed newspapers, so worth a visit. If you are lucky and get to sit on the terrace with the view of the Central park, awesome!

Indian Coffee House
M I Road
Jaipur

One of the oldest places in Jaipur, very simple but you will find the most reasonable and good coffee here. Not at all fancy but a lot of character.

LMB (Laxmi Misthan Bhandar)
Johari Bazar
Jaipur

Another one of the finest and oldest traditional Indian Restaurants in the heart of the City. You can always take a break here for a Kesar Kufli, Coffee or any kinds of Chaats and they are one of the best in Jaipur. I remember growing up seeing that. This time I took the girls and they loved it. It might be a bit too crowded but its worth a wait.

Rawat Kachori
Station Road
Jaipur

The best Pyaz ki Kachori in Jaipur and they also the Mawe ki Kachori. Its a very old place for traditional Rajasthani food. If you fancy, worth a visit. Its very close to the bus station and the railway station too.

Kanhas
Opposite Gaurav Towers
Malviya Nagar
Jaipur

Kanhas serve all kinds of Indian street food in a very hygenic way and qutie reasonable. There list of dishes is so big that you can eat a different dish for more than a week. I love it, simple great food.

Lassiwala
M I Road
Jaipur

You can get the best Lassi (Yoghurt drink) here and they serve it in earthen pots how it was done years ago. You just stand outside the shop and enjoy the frothy thick Lassi.

Anokhi
KK Square
C11 Prithviraj Road
Chitranjan Marg
302005 Jaipur

This is a little Restaurant/Cafe which is just outside the Anokhi boutique. There food is simple, fresh, delicious and reasonable. My girls love the ginger sodas and lemonades here and R loves the filter Coffee. You can also find nice cakes and a very good Falafel. Our routine is to go shop for books on the first floor at Crosswords and then I sneak in Anokhi for a Kurta or something and the final destination is to chill at the Restaurant, worth a visit.

On the third floor is another very nice Restaurant

Little Italy

We had the best Brownie served on the hot plate with Vanilla Ice-creme, although I have also heard they serve one of the best Pizzas, but I havent tried it yet.
